Having trouble accessing content inside a Web CT course? Try the following possible solutions:
Solution 1 --Browser Tuneup
More than likely you will need to adjust some settings in your browser. This page is designed to help you make the necessary adjustments for optimal accessibility: http://www.webct.com/tuneup
Solution 2 -- Spyware Removal
- Download Ad-Aware (spyware removal software). Spyware is notorious for corrupting your system by changing key settings in your browser (Netscape and Internet Explorer). This software is free and does a nice job of ridding your system of those pesky plug-ins.
- Once you have downloaded the software, follow the installation directions.
- Open the Ad-Aware software
- Click on the link for "Check for updates now"
- After the software updates, click the "Start" button
- Ensure the "Use default scanning options" is selected
- Press the "Next" button
- The scanning will begin and will likely be a lengthy process, especially if you have never done this before--ALLOW IT TO FULLY COMPLETE THE SCAN
- Upon completion of the scan, a list of all spyware found on your system will be listed--be sure to check the box to the left of each item found
- Click the "Finish" button to remove the items
Solution 3 -- Install/Enable Java
Download latest version of Java for your browser
After installation, reboot and attempt to access WebCT again
Other Solutions
- Fine Tune your Browser
- Make sure you do not have pop-up blocker software installed. If so, please disable it.
- Disable pop-up blocker if it is enabled in your browser
- Certain Pop-up blockers can be over-ridden by pressing certain keys. The more common keys are "Ctrl" and "Shift". If certain content inside your course is inaccessible, try holding down one of these keys while clicking on the file/link you are having difficulties opening.
- Sometimes Instructors post files to which you do not have the software required to open that file type. For example, a MS Word file (.doc) will require MS Word, or another Word Processing software capable of converting the file, to open it. If this is the case, email your instructor and request that he/she post multiple file types (preferably html) of the same file.
