General Education Goal: Critical Thinking
Students who have developed effective critical thinking skills will be able to demonstrate at least one of the following:
* Comprehend complex ideas, data, and concepts
* Make inferences based on careful observation
* Make judgments based on specific and appropriate criteria
* Problem solve using specific processes and techniques
* Recognize relationships between the arts, culture, and society
* Develop new ideas by synthesizing related and/or fragmented information
* Apply knowledge and understanding to different contexts, and situations
Means and Criteria for Successful Assessment:
* To assess this goal, describe a specific activity that you use to determine if your students have these skills, and indicate which goal is being assessed. The activity can be a report, an assignment, a presentation, a specific question(s)on an exam, or any activity you believe is appropriate for measuring critical thinking skills.
* To determine if a students has successfully demonstrated critical thinking skills you need to establish criteria that enable you to differentiate between students who have critical thinking skills and those who do not.
