Meet Caleb

Caleb is an NEO graduate.

What excites you the most about NEO GOLD?

NEO GOLD excites me for many reasons, but more than anything, it excites me to be able to give back to students. As a student myself at NEO, I had many friends, staff, and faculty that poured into me and pushed me to my full potential as a student. That being said, I feel as if NEO GOLD gives me that prime opportunity to not only help students in their academic endeavors, but more importantly, allows for meaningful and genuine mentor/mentee relationships that will facilitate effective learning, personal confidence, and a wonderful college experience for the student.

What’s your favorite food?

Sushi.

What’s the best class you’ve ever taken?

In my time at NEO, my favorite class would have had to been Calculus. Mr. Aldridge not only exemplified a high level of expertise in his field, but he went above and beyond to provide his students with the best atmosphere and opportunities to succeed. He was truly one of the best teachers I have ever had.

What is your favorite movie?

The Prestige.

What would people be surprised to find out about you?

One thing many people don’t know about me is that I love to be outside and in nature.

What is one of your hobbies?

I particularly enjoy hiking, camping, and long-distance cycling.

What did you do wrong or right when you took online classes?

When I first starting taking online courses there were many different aspects of online learning that I did not expect. For instance, I struggled greatly in knowing how to properly balance school and work, how to study effectively, and how to maintain an intentional and beneficial relationship with each and every one of my professors.

What’s your favorite time of year?

Spring.

What’s your favorite holiday?

Christmas.

What would you go viral for on the Internet?

This is a great question, in one way or another I feel as if I would go viral for something unintentional. I would probably most likely be shown to the world right after I had fallen, tripped, or been victimized in a prank.

“For most, working is merely an eight-hour shift five days a week, but in my experience at NEO it was so much more than that for the staff and faculty. Exemplifying a true passion and concern to not only help me, but push me to excel to my full academic potential, the staff and faculty were superb. It was in noticing this desire to help students in every area, that I truly began to experience the close-knit family that NEO provides for all of their students.”

Meet Ryan

Ryan is a Sophomore at NEO.

What excites you the most about NEO GOLD?

NEO GOLD is an excellent opportunity to connect with other students. I am most excited about the friendships that will be formed. Throughout my time at NEO I have had amazing support and encouragement and I hope to be that support for someone.

What’s your favorite food?

Fettucine Alfredo

What’s the best class you’ve ever taken?

My favorite class thus far would have to be Intro to Art with Mrs. Stout. Her overflowing passion for art gave me a new-found appreciation for art. She made time for extra-curricular activities such as painting in the studio, a trip to Crystal Bridges Art Museum, and other activities around campus. Mrs. Stout always puts her students first and makes sure everyone is included. She is truly the most caring and inspiring teacher I have ever had.

What is your favorite movie?

Steven Spielberg’s 1993 Jurassic Park

What would people be surprised to find out about you?

A characteristic a lot of people overlook is my appreciation for technology.

What is one of your hobbies?

I enjoy being outdoors, learning new songs on the guitar, and playing video games online with friends.

What did you do wrong or right when you took online classes?

When I took my online class I was unable to see how vital time management was. I struggled with balancing other school work, multiple jobs, and life, but I really learned a lot from that experience that helped make me a better student.

What would be your ideal superpower?

Invisibility.

What’s your favorite holiday?

4th of July.

What would you go viral for on the Internet?

I would go viral on the Internet by starring on my own YouTube channel that focuses on my Dad’s tricks of the trade and his simple life style.

“There is a lot to love about NEO but what I appreciate the most is the connections and friendships I have made through working for CASA. My CASA family is fun, supportive, and they challenge me to be the best student and person I can be.”
