Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (NEO) Alumna Dr. Linda Sue Warner was recently honored with the Career Achievement Award from the Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education at the University of Oklahoma. The Career Achievement Award is presented to alumni or friends of the College who demonstrate continued commitment to service and education. A 1968 graduate of NEO, Dr. Warner earned her Ph.D. from OU in 1989 and has spent more than fifty years working as a common education teacher and administrator, secondary education instructor and administrator, and President of Haskell Indian Nations University. She currently serves as a Special Assistant to Dr. Jeff Hale on Tribal Affairs and is a consultant with Bowman Performance Counseling. “Dr. Warner’s service at all levels of education and beyond make her an ideal winner of this award,” noted Emily Reed, director of development, in an announcement release.

Along with her impressive career experience in education, Dr. Warner has accrued three decades of policy planning experience and served on the U.S. Department of Interior’s No Child Left Behind implementation program for Indian Country. She sits on nearly a dozen editorial boards, maintains fellowships with the Smithsonian Institution and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, has received over 25 national and regional honors, and has written nearly a dozen books on issues relating to Native American education. “Dr. Warner has helped NEO improve our efforts to be a national leader in the education of American Indian students,” said Rachel Lloyd, Director of the American Indian Center for Excellence. “We’ve worked with her to train our faculty in the cultural alignment of curriculum and she has been instrumental in our work to form grant partnerships with area tribes.”

“It has been a privilege and honor to work with Dr. Linda Sue Warner,” said Hannah Berryman, AICE Mentor. “She has always been very helpful to our Native American Student Association and continues to devote her time and resources presenting our Native students with opportunities that will help them be successful in the future. We are very fortunate to have her here on our campus. ” For more information about the American Indian Center for Excellence, Native Education on the NEO Campus, or information of Dr. Warner, contact Hannah Berryman at Hannah.berryman@neo.edu or call 918-540-6144.
