Officials from the Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (NEO) Development Foundation recently announced that $10,000 was donated to endow the Dr. Carol Ann Morris Memorial Nursing Scholarship. Dr. Morris was a nursing instructor at NEO for several years and served as the department director. During her tenure at NEO, she was incredibly influential in the lives of nursing students. Dr. Morris passed away on August 21, 2016; she was 81. Her two children, seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and twenty nieces and nephews survive her. Born in 1935, she graduated from the St. John’s School of Nursing in 1955, the same year she married Ernie Morris, her husband of 43 years. She later earned her Masters and Doctorate in Education from Oklahoma State University.

The scholarship was donated by Dr. Morris’s children, Kimberly Tuck (Herman) and Timothy Morris. In memory of her dedication to education and nursing, the scholarship was endowed to support a scholarship for nursing students who display academic accomplishment and fortitude. The endowment will provide $500 per year toward the purchase of books for students who demonstrate financial need and maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average (GPA). “Dr. Carol Morris dedicated most of her career to preparing future nurses and to ensuring NEO College provided quality health science programs,” said Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Bethene Fahnestock. “Her contributions to nursing education extended far beyond her tenure at NEO. Carol was a passionate NEO alum as shown by her involvement in campus wide events. She is truly missed.”
