Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (NEO) Basketball hosted its annual breast cancer awareness pink game on Thursday, Feb. 15. At the event, NEO honored retired employee and breast cancer survivor Beverly Arnold. This year’s theme was Slam Dunkin’ Cancer and both the NEO Men and Women defeated Western Oklahoma State University during the evening’s games. Arnold graduated from NEO in 1972 and worked for 17 years as NEO’s Benefits Clerk. Since retiring in June 2015, she has enjoyed spending time with her husband, Gary, and their children and grandchildren. In October of last year, Arnold was diagnosed with breast cancer. Fortunately, doctors acted quickly and it was encapsulated. She had a total bilateral mastectomy on January 19 and her oncologist has given her a positive prognosis with no further treatment scheduled except oral medication for the next 5 years. Lady Norse Coach Jim Rowland and his team presented Arnold with a signed “Slam Dunkin’ Cancer” t-shirt during the ceremony that took place between the women’s and men’s games.
