In preparation for the 2014 -2015 academic year, Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College’s (NEO) music program and Miami High School and Middle School have joined forces to offer area middle and high school students a workshop July 28-30 at NEO A&M College. The workshop will prepare students for their audition music for All-State and All-District competitions.  The workshop hopes to make this music more accessible to any student who wants to learn. Monday, July 28 and the morning of Tuesday, July 29, NEO Director of Choirs, Mary Susan Whaley, Miami High School Choir Director, Vicky Carter, Will Rogers Middle School Choir Director, Ron Stowell, Vinita High School Choir Director, Paula Hiseley, First United Methodist Church Minister of Music, Jason Vawter, and First Baptist Church Minister of Music, Eric Carter will teach the students and aid them in learning the notes and rhythms of the music selections. Marge Malone, a notable educator, clinician, and adjudicator from Tahlequah will work with high school students on Tuesday, July 29 and Wednesday, July 30.

The schedule will be:

Monday, July 28

8:30 – 9 a.m.  Registration

9 – 9:30 a.m. Ice Breakers

9:30 – 12 a.m. Sectionals

12 – 1 p.m. Lunch

1 – 4 p.m. Sectionals

Tuesday, July 29

9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Sectionals

12 – 1 p.m. Lunch

1 – 4 p.m. Rehearsal with Clinician

Wednesday, July 30

9 a.m. – 12 p.m.   Rehearsal with Clinician

The cost for the workshop is as follows:

• $30 per student, which includes music packet and lunch on Monday and Tuesday. If the student has already purchased music the cost is $20, which includes lunch on Monday and Tuesday.

“It is the hope of the organizers that students will take advantage of this workshop providing choral students of schools of all sizes an affordable opportunity to learn the music necessary for auditions,” Whaley said. “Organizers hope to see the representation of our area schools grow in the All-State and All-District arena.
