The Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (NEO) Theatre Experience has set new dates for their production of the comedy rock musical, “Little Shop of Horrors.” The show will now run March 25-28 at the NEO A&M College Fine Arts Center. “This cast is incredible,” said Aaron Smith, NEO Theatre Artistic Director. “I have never seen a show develop so quickly. They were ready. Unfortunately, bad weather and COVID precautions delayed our supplies, props and set build, forcing us to reschedule.” One of those props is the largest Audrey II puppet in the show. It stands eighteen feet tall with a head ten feet long. It is puppeteered by freshman, Aaron Bishop, who also provides the plant’s voice. The postponement will allow the audience to experience newly recalibrated lights and sound, a project that was in process when it was halted by the February deep freeze. Students reinstalled every light in the auditorium on a new digital system and configured more than eighty fixtures in a reusable grid. The venue’s sound equipment received similar attention and is now controlled digitally from anywhere in the building. The updates improve the Fine Arts Auditorium’s capabilities in socially distanced class delivery.

Little Shop of Horrors was written by Howard Ashman with music by Alan Menken, based on the film by Roger Corman and screenplay by Charles Griffith. It has received nine major theatrical awards, including Best Musical, with a possible Grammy Award pending for Best Musical Theater Album. Little Shop of Horrors Broadway Version plays March 25-27 at 7:30 p.m. and March 28 at 2:30 p.m. in the NEO Fine Arts Center. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 teens/children, free for NEO students and employees. Masks and social distancing required on campus. Reserve your tickets at theatre.neo.edu
