Now Accepting Applications for the Tenth Annual James Mabon Founders’ Day Award
Miami, Okla. – Thursday, January 31, 2019 – Applications are now available for the 2019 James Mabon Founders’ Day Award. As part of Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College’s (NEO) Centennial Celebration, the NEO President’s Partners and the NEO Development Foundation are awarding up to $2,000 for a campus improvement project. Previous winners have developed a mural in the Library/Administration Building, supported custom trophy cabinets for the Agriculture Department, and created the Student Resource H.U.B. in the CASA. All students, staff, and faculty may apply and the winner will be announced at the Founders’ Day celebration on Friday, March 29.
Representative James Mabon, a representative in the fourth through the ninth Oklahoma legislatures, petitioned the state’s government to establish a college dedicated to the study of mining and metals to improve the development of Oklahoma’s mining industry. Mabon joined with Senator J. J. Smith of Miami to craft Senate Bill No. 225, which passed on March 17, 1919, officially establishing the Miami School of Mines, which later became NEO.
All submissions are due by Friday, March 8, 2019 by midnight. All projects submissions will be accepted, but to honor the spirit of Representative Mabon, they must center on campus improvement. The winning project will receive up to $2,000 for itemized expenses to complete their project within 12 months.
