The NEO GOLD (Guidance for Online Learning and Discovery) Program is designed to provide students new to the online learning environment with an experienced mentor who can help them navigate the new territory. Mentors are students experienced at taking online courses. The mentor is available to answer questions, provide resources, and offer encouragement to the members of the group. Mentors and participants will communicate on a regular basis.
What is NEO GOLD?
For students new to the online learning environment, the experience can be challenging. They may not know where to look for answers to questions. NEO GOLD helps match students with a mentor to help them be successful. A peer mentor is able to provide those students with the resources that will help them succeed in online classes.
Goals for NEO GOLD
With NEO GOLD, there are four goals that guide our practices.
Readiness for online coursework.
We will provide resources that will address and close the gaps students have in being prepared for taking online classes.
We will provide information to help students strengthen their time management skills and encourage self-efficacy.
We will help students understand how to navigate resources, systems, and policies.
We will encourage a sense of community and connection to the college among online students.
