Officials at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (NEO) crowned the 2017 Homecoming Royalty at the annual coronation ceremony; held during the homecoming game that saw the NEO Golden Norsemen defeat the Cisco Wranglers 42-9. Ms. Morgan Smith was crowned as the 2017 Homecoming Queen and Mr. Marcus Trevino as the 2017 Homecoming King. Smith is a sophomore Natural Science/Graphic Design double major from Welch, Okla., and represented the Norse Stars. She is the daughter of Kevin and Tammy Smith. Trevino is a sophomore Nursing student from Mineral Wells, Texas, and the son of Jose and Aracely Ibarra. He represented the Nursing Class. The candidates won based on their references, electronic portfolios, and pageant performance. “The competition was tough and the judges really had their work cut out for them. Every person was an amazing candidate and it could have been anyone’s crown,” said Morgan Smith, 2017 Homecoming Queen. “I am extremely honored to have been chosen as this year’s Ms. Norse Spirit and Queen and I look forward to representing NEO until next year when I can crown the 2018 queen.”

“I’m glad my faculty and classmates elected me to represent them to compete for this honor. I’ve met some awesome people and had fun doing it,” said Marcus Trevino, 2017 Homecoming King. “There were so many other great candidates and I’m honored to be representing our great campus. I am excited to do my part to make sure future generations succeed at NEO.”

As part of their responsibility as king and queen, Smith and Trevino will represent NEO by attending NEO sponsored on and off-campus events throughout the year. They also both received a $250 Foundation scholarship. Ethan Hall and Chloe Clapp served as the child attendants to the homecoming court. First runners up were Carlos Diaz, representing Phi Beta Lambda, and Emily Simons, representing the Nursing Class. Diaz is a sophomore from Houston, Texas majoring in International Business and is the son of Luis and Chantel Diaz. Simons is a sophomore from Stilwell, Okla., majoring in nursing. She is the daughter of Eric and Jeanne Simons. Second runners up were Steven Roberts representing the Resident Life Council, and Dulcinea Wenzel, representing the Masquers Club. Roberts is a sophomore General Studies major from Ardmore, Okla., and is the son of Steven Roberts and Tyronika Smith. Wenzel is a freshman General Studies major from Miami, Okla. She is the daughter of Kim and Kathy Wenzel. Morgan Smith and Carlos Diaz also won the student-body selected Mr. and Ms. Norse Spirit award.

Royalty candidates voted amongst themselves for the Mr. and Ms. Congeniality pageant award, which earns winners bonus points toward their total score. Carlos Diaz received the Mr. Congeniality award and Emily Simons received the Ms. Congeniality award; they were also recognized during the coronation.
