Now Accepting Applications for the Eighth Annual James Mabon Founders’ Day Award

Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018 ¬– Applications are now available for the 2018 James Mabon Founders’ Day Award. As part of NEO’s 99th anniversary celebration, the NEO Development Foundation is awarding up to $2,000 for a campus improvement project. Previous winners have improved office furniture for students, installed blinds in Shipley Hall, and created the Student Resource H.U.B. All students, staff, and faculty may apply and the winner will be announced at the Founders’ Day celebration on Friday, April 6.

Representative James Mabon, a representative in the fourth through the ninth Oklahoma legislatures, petitioned the state’s government to establish a college dedicated to the study of mining and metals to improve the development of Oklahoma’s mining industry. Senate Bill No. 225 was passed on March 17, 1919, officially establishing the Miami School of Mines, which later became NEO.

All submissions are due by Tuesday, March 20, 2018 by midnight. All projects will be accepted, but to honor the spirit of Representative Mabon, they must center on campus improvement. The winning project will receive up to $2,000 for itemized expenses to complete their project within 12 months.

All candidates for the James Mabon Founders’ Day contest must visit https://goo.gl/forms/WZ3Jbu9AmcPl2yBz1 and fill out the entry form.
