Meet your RA!


Resident Assistants (RA’s) are a very important part of the Resident Life department. RA’s have direct and constant student contact. The RA’s primary responsibility is to act as a facilitator for the residents and to enhance the social, intellectual and cultural development of each individual. The RA delivers to the student the philosophy and policies of the Residential Life office as well as NEO A&M College. The RA also serves as a positive role model and “tour guide” through residential life at NEO.

Immediate Supervisor

The Residential Assistant works under the direct supervision of the Residence Resident Director.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average (cumulative and semester) as well as be enrolled as a full time student (12+ hours) at NEO A&M College. RA’s who fail to meet these requirements during their employment will be terminated from their position and any compensation will be forfeited.
  • RA floor assignments will be determined by the Resident Director and may be reassigned at any time during the academic year.
  • RA’s will maintain open communication at all times with Resident Director and the office of Residential Life.
  • RA’s are expected to explain, enforce and support Resident Life and College policies and procedures. Failure to do so will result in immediate dismissal.
  • RA’s are expected to remain in good standing, academically, behaviorally and financially.
  • RA’s are expected to act as positive representatives of the Office of Residential Life at all times.
  • Due to the nature of the position, RA’s must be willing to accept all other duties as determined and assigned by the Residence Resident Director and the Office of Resident Life.
  • RA’s are expected to be available in the dorms during opening and closing of Resident Halls.

Specific Responsibilities

  1. Within the first two weeks of school, know all students on floor.
  2. Hold a floor meeting once a month or as needed.
  3. Respect and maintain the confidentiality of staff and students.
  4. Consistently encourage responsibility among floor residents.
  5. Be aware of campus and community agencies that may provide a service to the students.
  6. Attend and participate in staff training.
  7. Attend regular staff and hall meetings.
  8. Remain on campus for scheduled weekend shifts.
  9. Participate in the recruitment, selection and training of new staff members.
  10. Discuss all outside activities (club, sports, organizations, etc.) with Resident Director in terms of your time management and employer commitment.
  11. Immediately report all emergencies and serious situations to your Resident Director.
  12. Notify Resident Director whenever the Campus Police enter the building. If Resident Director is unavailable contact the appropriate staff member and log police visit for future reference.
  13. Attend and participate in Resident Life meetings and functions.
  14. Be available for special College and Resident Life events such as Homecoming, Halloween, Family Day, Spring Fling, Resident Life dances, etc.
  15. Complete administrative tasks such as check-in, check-out, maintenance request, incident reports, etc., and other duties as assigned by Resident Director.
  16. Maintain accurate floor plan.
  17. Report maintenance problems to Resident Director as soon as possible.
  18. Participate in all emergency drills and/or evacuations.
  19. Facilitate programs on your floor.
  20. Report and document all discipline situations to the Resident Director.
  21. Be available in room for scheduled room duty.
  22. Develop and deliver floor programs.
  23. Enforce and explain school policy and procedure.
  24. Help each resident enjoy their stay in the NEO residential community.
